While this guide is not meant to be a full manual of the Avaya PBX and phone system, I am hoping it can be used to by people with limited telephony experience, but may have to carry out some basic operations...
IP Softphones
An “IP Softphone” is a piece of software that can be installed on a PC, and with a microphone and speaker set attached to the PC, the PC can act as a telephone. IP soft phones could be useful for people traveling on business trips, or for remote workers. They can also be used as a simple VoIP solution. To use the IP softphone outside of a corporate network, you would need a VPN and broad-band internet connection.
To set up an IP softphone from the PBX side, you need to make sure you enter a four digit Security code as shown below.

Also, you need to change a telephone setting in either the GEDI or Emulator.
The setting appears on the first screen, and you need to change the IP soft phone setting to ‘y’ from an ‘n’.
