Adding an new extension

To add a new extension, you need to at least know the phone type and port number (for digital phones).

From the terminal:

add st extn-number

You then need to enter the phone type and display name. The phone type needs to be correct otherwise the particular buttons for that phone type will not operate as expected. Most of the other settings can be left blank.

To customize the buttons for the phone see the section on ‘Programming the buttons on your phone’.

If you have the Avaya Site Administration tool, the task is even easier. Select the option “Add user”, then you are presented with a dialog to enter the extension number and the users first and last name. You then get a pull down list to select the phone type. The port is only needed for non-ip phones and will only display if you select a non-IP telephone.

Thirdly you then can select the functions you would like for each particular button. The nice thing with this tool is that you get a brief description for every button function available.
